Over the past 15 years, Foden has logged tens of thousands of hours on his affectionately nicknamed \u201cBig Red\u201d Toro Groundsmaster\u00ae 4500 Contour Mower at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Sharon, Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-1-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI drive from 5:30 in the morning to whenever I feel like I\u2019m done, usually around one in the afternoon, five days a week,\u201d says Foden. Originally a truck driver, Foden is no stranger to putting in long hours driving. But he much prefers logging his hours on \u201cBig Red\u201d compared to when he was on the road. \u201cI live on that mower,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pheasant Run course is fortunate to have rolling hills in an area of Ontario that\u2019s known to be fairly flat. \u201cWe\u2019re lucky, we have lots of hills and beautiful vistas for our players to enjoy,\u201d says Leasha Schwab, superintendent at Pheasant Run. The course also boasts plenty of rough to cut, which is why Big Red is out all day, every day. \u201cThat\u2019s the benefit of having someone like Dave riding the same mower every day, he just knows what he\u2019s doing. The efficiency of cutting roughs day to day is much higher when you have a person who\u2019s an expert at it,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-2-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With so many hours spent riding Big Red, Foden has customized it over the years to make it his own. For example, awhile back, someone on the course rolled a golf cart. The cart was totaled but the roof was in good shape. \u201cI saved the roof and rigged it up to the mower, which keeps me out of the sun,\u201d says Foden. A new seat was also recently added, and Foden devised a clever way of extending the shifter to accommodate his height \u2014 a draft beer tap handle. \u201cWe painted the handle to match the mower, and now that\u2019s what drops and picks up the [cutting units],\u201d he says. \u201cIt fits me better, and you\u2019d never know it was a beer tap handle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com\/app\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-3.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/article-image-million-mile-mower-3-300x174.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked how Big Red has been kept in such good shape after all those hours, Schwab had a simple answer. \u201cDave knows his mower. It goes through regular service, but if anything seems even a little bit off or sounds a little bit strange, he brings it right in to our mechanic and gets it back in perfect condition.\u201d Plus, Schwab adds, it\u2019s \u201cthe best rough mower on the market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to share your &#8220;Million Mile Mower&#8221; story?
