The Toro Lynx Control System enables superintendents to make timely, accurate irrigation decisions. That can mean dramatic water savings, improved course conditions and more efficient use of your time.

Mark Malasavage, Director of Course Maintenance and Grounds for the Hershey Golf Collection in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is the perfect example.

Originally established in 1930 by chocolate maker Milton Hershey, the Hershey Golf Collection now includes three separate 18-hole courses and a 9-hole course. Malasavage has overseen the installation of the Toro Lynx Control System across the Hershey Collection.

Toro’s innovative Lynx system combines all of a course’s essential irrigation information in a single, intuitive interface. You can instantly access course management data — past, present or planned — from multiple sources, including weather stations, pump stations, electrical systems, sprinklers, intelligent field controllers and even Toro Turf Guard® wireless soil sensors.

“It gives you total controllability,” said Malasavage. “Lynx puts all your information right there in front of you and just makes everything easier.”

Easily set up and customize your irrigation system

The Lynx system displays an interactive map of your course on your computer screen, with sprinklers, satellites and other components in their exact locations. You can program, control and monitor your irrigation directly from the map.

Lynx allows you to customize water distribution based on large areas of your course, specific holes or even individual sprinkler heads. “For example, you can click on a hole or just a fairway, and then fine-tune that specific part of the course based on the latest conditions,” explained Malasavage. “It only takes a couple of mouse clicks to adjust the schedule. It’s really that easy.”

Precise irrigation adjustments, huge water savings

Malasavage estimated the Lynx Control System enables him to reduce Hershey’s fairways watering program by 10,000-15,000 gallons per watering cycle. The more than 10 percent in water savings that represents is a big financial break across the course.

Greater ability to fine-tune irrigation also helps to optimize course conditions at Hershey. “Lynx helps us to make sure our greens have just enough water, so they can be firm and not spongy,” said Malasavage. “We have some pushup greens without drainage systems, and with too much moisture they slow down — and our players want the greens to be fast.”

Unsurpassed integration with other system components

One of Malasavage’s responsibilities is to train his staff on new equipment and software. “Lynx is so user-friendly, everybody caught on quickly,” he said. “I was able to teach others how to use it in about five minutes.”

Another beneficial aspect of the Lynx Control System is that when multiple users interact on the same program, all adjustments are immediately documented and recorded — whether it’s a change made in the field from an iPad® or smartphone or manual watering activities.

“I can look at the screen and see right away if somebody else had made a change,” Malasavage said. Lynx auto-generates reports after each night’s watering, so you can quickly confirm all system activities at a glance.

A smart control system that’s a smart investment

Other control systems require you to adapt to them, rather than adapting to how you work. Lynx lets you control your course your way.

“It makes you as good as you can be,” Malasavage said. “I’d say the Toro Lynx Control System is the best investment we’ve made above the actual irrigation system itself.”

To learn more about the Lynx Control System, contact your Toro distributor, call 1-800-803-8676 or go to toro.com/lynx to watch a demonstration. The Toro Lynx Control System enables superintendents to make timely, accurate irrigation decisions.
