We had a chance to find out firsthand with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rydercup.com\/\">41st Ryder Cup<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/hazeltinenational.com\/\">Hazeltine National Golf Club<\/a> in Chaska, Minn.<\/p>\n<p>Located just a half hour from Toro\u2019s U.S. headquarters in Bloomington, Minn., Hazeltine has partnered with The Toro Company since the course first opened in 1962. Today, Toro is the course\u2019s exclusive provider of turf maintenance equipment and irrigation solutions \u2014 products that played a major role in getting ready for this event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3345\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"rydercup_images500x333-3\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-3-480x320.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-3.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting the Stage<br \/>\n<\/strong>Hazeltine superintendent Chris Tritabaugh and his crew started preparing for the six-day match-play competition over a year in advance. Working with the PGA, they made sure the course was prepared to exact specifications for everything from tent location to tree removal to heights of cut.<\/p>\n<p>As tournament time drew closer, Tritabaugh assembled a team of volunteers by networking on social media and reaching out to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mgcsa.org\/\">Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association (MGCSA)<\/a>. Even members of the Hazeltine greens and tournament committees joined in. In all, about 120 volunteers from five different countries around the world helped with the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ramping Up With Toro Equipment<br \/>\n<\/strong>To support the massive volunteer effort, Toro channel partner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtidistributing.com\/\">MTI Distributing<\/a> delivered additional Toro equipment in August. Volunteers began working en masse in early September to maintain the pristine conditions created by Tritabaugh and his team.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3344\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"rydercup_images500x333-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-2-480x320.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Crews used Toro Greensmaster<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> walk mowers on greens, and Greensmaster<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 1000 and 1600 mowers on approaches, aprons and tee boxes. They also used Reelmaster<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 3550 and 3555 mowers on the fairways, as well as Groundsmaster<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 3500, 4500 and 4700 mowers plus TurfMaster&#x2122; walk rotaries on the roughs. Other equipment included Workman<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> GTX and HDX utility vehicles, GreensPro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 1240 greens rollers, TransPro&#x2122; 100 trailers, and Pro Force&#x2122; debris blowers to clean fairways and surrounds.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3343\" src=\"https:\/\/toroadvantage.com-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"rydercup_images500x333-1\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-1-480x320.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.toroadvantage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/RyderCup_Images500x333-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With so many volunteers on hand, having operator-friendly, intuitive equipment was a key benefit. Basic training was provided when necessary, but it was a quick learning curve, since many volunteers were familiar with Toro turf maintenance equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taking Stock<br \/>\n<\/strong>Looking back, the event was a tremendous success, due in large part to the work many people did behind the scenes. \u201cIt was long days and short nights, but it\u2019s something you can be proud of when you look at the global impact of an event like that,\u201d says crew member Jeff Drake, district sales manager at Toro.<\/p>\n<p>Drake was also impressed with how everyone involved worked together toward a common goal. \u201cThe camaraderie that was formed between the U.S. volunteers and the international volunteers was incredible,\u201d Drake says. \u201cIt was just a great bonding experience.
